Who we are
PSA is operated as an independent project. Legal correspondence should be directed to hello@psa.xyz with the subject line "Legal Request." We do not have a registered legal department — emails go to a real person who will respond.
What we can provide
For a specific published message, upon receipt of valid legal process served under Canadian law (or foreign process we are legally required to honor), we can provide:
- The message audio — masked version as published
- The transcript
- The timestamp of when the message was received
- The message ID
These are the only records we maintain for published messages. We don't have more to give.
What we cannot provide
Caller identity. We do not store phone numbers. We store a one-way cryptographic hash that cannot be reversed without a separate pepper value, which is stored in a system with its own access controls, separate from our main database. A court order cannot compel us to produce data we do not have. If your legal need requires identifying who called, we cannot help you. This is an architectural fact, not a policy position.
Emergency situations
If you believe a message in our archive represents an imminent, credible threat to someone's safety, do not wait for normal legal process. Email hello@psa.xyz immediately and describe the situation in plain terms: what the message says, who you believe is at risk, and why you believe the threat is credible and current. We will respond within 4 hours and work with you to assess whether any action — removal, referral, or otherwise — is appropriate. Emergency requests go to the front of the queue.
Child sexual abuse material (CSAM)
Any content involving the sexual exploitation of minors is reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline and to relevant Canadian authorities. This happens before any legal process is served — it is not contingent on receiving a subpoena or court order. If you are from NCMEC or a law enforcement agency following up on a report we filed, contact us directly at hello@psa.xyz and reference the CyberTip number.
Process and timeline
We review legal requests on a rolling basis. Non-emergency requests receive a response within 10 business days. We will comply with valid legal process served under Canadian law. We will review requests from foreign jurisdictions and comply where we are legally required to do so under Canadian private international law.
Where we are legally permitted to do so, we will notify the affected party before complying with a legal request. If the legal process includes a non-disclosure order, we will honor it and cannot notify the affected party during that period.
Challenging requests
We reserve the right to challenge requests that we believe are overbroad, procedurally defective, or inconsistent with the rights of people who use this service. We will not comply with requests that appear designed to identify anonymous speakers for the purpose of suppressing lawful speech — political criticism, whistleblowing, or other protected expression. If you send us a demand like that, expect pushback.
We are a small operation. We don't have general counsel on retainer. If a request requires legal analysis, we will seek it before responding, which may extend our timeline. We'll tell you if that's the case.
